122: We pretend we are strangers/you and me...

We pretend we are strangers

you and me

but we aren’t

We are closer than brother and sister

We know as much about the other

as do husband and wife

Yet here we are silent

in this space together

not even introducing ourselves

We pass each other:

          say nothing

          don’t make eye contact

           Continents are moving closer together

faster than we are!

          Icebergs break off from glaciers

         and drift towards the equator

         slowly melting

faster than we are dissolving

        our barriers

Who is this you and me?

we are not brother and sister

we are not husband and wife

nor are we continents or glaciers

Just two people passing on the sidewalk

There is no you and me here

There is no you and me anywhere

There is no

          you

There is no

          me
