136: “What kind of poem do you want?”/you asked...

“What kind of poem do you want?”

          you asked

What are the words

that can tell me all about you

the very recipe of you.

Are there lines

to reveal the invisible,

a poem that will speak

this silent prayer hanging between us?

I want to read

the most revealing poem you own

to roll every syllable on my tongue

and to taste inside it

the salt of your skin

the pressure of our mouths

Just as words don’t have to be poetry

neither does poetry have to be words

In between the beats of your pulse

a great tide rises and falls

Tell me the poem

about the place I can watch

the sun both rising and falling

on that sea

as if making love in slow constant rhythm

           give me that poem
