I’ve been so afraid since I met you.

Saying this to you scares me,

even though I want you to hear it:

I want you to know this isn’t easy for me

these first words to you

it takes all my effort to stay calm

and try to act naturally

how can I say all this desire inside me

without sounding desperate or crazy

I want you to know I’d much rather it be you

saying these first words

there’s no telling when I may lose control

or start saying everything my heart cries out

that my brain isn’t fast enough to censor

Sometimes I forget all about impediments and barriers:

I want you to know

no matter how many people are in a room

one hundred, ten thousand,

you’re the only one my eyes find
