165: There is a new poetry growing/one not governed by lines or characters...
Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 6:54AM There is a new poetry growing
one not governed by lines or characters
one not limited by words, pages, or voice
one that is expressed by living
by action and in-action
A time is approaching
when poetry which does not leave the page
and poetry which is only audible vibration
will no longer be called poetry
and poetry, this new poetry,
will live outside of books
in the open air
and will be synonymous
with words like:
“relationship,” “experience,” and “character”
The climbing starts in darkness
and continues for hours
the way lit by red filtered flash lights
elevation adds up hour by hour
but existence only includes the red
dirt, stones, and wood that is
too close to be swallowed in the dark
The summit is reached before the dawn
the sky is overcast, and there is no moon
there is only a sense of great
openness of space all around
this is the place where the
first light visits before all others
soon the dawn will come with out color
light will grow gradually and
the vast world that is hidden
will slowly reveal its form and substance
there will be no sudden beginning, ending,
or any kind of demarcation
those who first see it
and participate in its happening
will be the poets I’ve spoken of
and, my friends, they all agree, and
I’m here to tell you:
The beginning is near.
