169: Somewhere in the world/there is a saxophone playing...
Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 7:09AM Somewhere in the world
there is a saxophone playing
John Coltrane
or
Coleman Hawkins
or
Bird
or
Ornette Coleman
issuing plastic yawlps
daring you to hear the beauty
daring you to find the beauty in
his dissonant screams
screams like dying sunflowers
beauty in living
(but not living)
beauty in dying
(but not dead)
notes like
sunflowers standing
as they are dried by the sun
spared by the wind
a final note like
their faded ecstatic yellow
still vibrant
still alive, but its intensity soft
the final note
not as high or hard to play
as the peaks
but impressive
because of its lasting beauty
here at the end
lasting,
lasting,
last
last note
ready?
somewhere in the world
there is a saxophone playing
(here it comes)
Coltrane.
