Don’t look for joy at the celebration

the counterfeits you find

           won’t fill you

Don’t look for meaning (or truths)

in the churches or libraries

you’ll only make what you find

            fit what you know

Don’t look for poetry anywhere

you’ll only find papers

you’ll only find words

           true poetry reveals itself

           (like a flasher)

don’t open your eyes

don’t open your ears

to know the content of the world

be like the fish who can feel

the water in its stream

the current, the movement,

          and the stillness in each movement

be like the fish who doesn’t mistake these for atmosphere

When was the last time you realized you were walking through a liquid
