183: It was one of those skies/with three layers of broken...

It was one of those skies

with three layers of broken

clouds and the sunlight comes

breaking through and rises up

from the valley in columns of

supernatural brilliance and strength

and all in between the hills

and all the space in the valley

in a second becomes a vast cathedral

whose limits are as uncertain

as they are unimportant

and you are overwhelmed

by the want of you don’t have

but feel must exist

even though you have never experienced

what ever dream you seek.

Sometimes when we wake deep in the night

we close our eyes to search

reaching out to grasp

the dream which just slipped

from the hands of our mind

and the fingers of our sleep

what we reach for is that cathedral valley

that is half heaven, half real

we glimpse it for a second, a minute, a moment

and then it’s gone,

having slipped away as a dream

don’t try and get there

don’t try and hold on

remember how it felt

when you touched it
