Climbing up out of the city’s

steel and glass center

up to the old concrete and brick

The sidewalk comes to an end

and I wait to cross Pine Street

while a woman tries to give

directions to the man in

the black car across

two lanes of traffic

and I smile

she’s from out of town, too
